The Yamaha BB2024X is a wild 4-string electric bass with a pickguard and a metal plate mounted under a control board. The electronics and EQ controls provide the distinguishing bass tone, with power and dimension to turn heads and shake some butts. Yamaha BB bodyWhile the bass body is inherited from Yamaha's original BB, the Yamaha BB2024X's neck is positioned 5mm deeper into the BB body creating a more rigid design that improves sound and attack.PickupsBoth front and rear pickups are specially invented for this particular series. Pursuing ultimate passive sound, "Open Face Pickups" are used to cope with even aggressive picking of rock players. 5-piece neckThe neck of the Yamaha BB2024X bass consists of maple and mahogany. It provides durability and prevents necks from warping and curling. Spline jointYamaha has employed a 3-piece body structure with which the BB2024X bass' bridge is placed on the center piece in order to translate the maximum amount of string vibration to the body. This instrument was purchased directly from an authorized refurbishing center, who more than likely purchased it directly from the manufacturer. Though listed as a "used/2nd hand" item it is actually like new! The reason these instruments are listed this way is to avoid fraudulent warranty claims. Yamaha BB bass bodyWhile the body of the Yamaha 5-string bass is inherited from their original BB, the neck is positioned 5mm deeper into the BB body creating a more rigid design that improves sound and attack.PickupsBoth front and rear pickups on the BB2025X bass guitar are specially invented for this particular series. Pursuing ultimate passive sound, "Open Face Pickups" are used to cope with even aggressive picking of rock players. 5-piece neckThe electric bass' necks consist of maple and mahogany. It provides durability and prevents necks from warping and curling. Spline jointThe Yamaha BB2025X 5-string bass has employed a 3-piece body structure with which its bridge is placed on the center piece in order to translate the maximum amount of string vibration to the body. Instead of simply gluing wood pieces, Yamaha inserts a maple plate, called a "spline", into a slot on the bass guitar's joint sections. GREAT STARTER PACKAGE FOR THE MONEY

Just received my Yamaha bass pack in good order. I really knew nothing about this particular package - all I knew is that all of the other packages out in the market (except for the pricier Ibanez unit)were junk. This package offered alot of value for the money. I was counting on Yamaha's reputation for quality ,and - for the most part, it doesn't disappoint. The guitar looks & feels good, lightweight but not junky. It plays super easily (although I had to adjust the action a bit), and it sounds nice - a very decent rock bass that has an edgy sound.
The little practice amp is even better than I imagined - solid, quality feel. Of course, you'll never be able to play a gig with the amp (unless it's with acoustic guitars) but what do you expect? The little electronic tuner works great, the cable is junky , and the strap is OK. This package even includes an extra set of strings,a string winder and a Hal Leonard instructional booklet. These are extras the other packages don't inlcude.
For the money, the next best package next to the Ibanez set.

There are better ways to go than "starter kits"

I have a Yamaha RBX170 electric bass guitar, which is basically just a slightly better version of the guitar that comes with the ERB070 bass guitar "starter kit". I've always been impressed with Yamaha's quality, and these lower-end bass guitars don't disappoint.

However, I'd recommend going with the RBX170 bass, and save the rest of your money and pick up a decent amp. For the same amount of money, I got a slightly better Yamaha guitar (with a better agathis body, better pickups, and with more choice of colors), and an amp that is better than just a practice amp.

Brilliant product and service. Everything is as described. It was shipped on time. The ERB070 produces an excellent sound for the price!

The bass arrives with everything you need. Take 20 minutes to straighten the neck. Instructions for this are included. Follow the instructions! Or you could permanently damage your bass. Tuning is easy with the tuner included.

With a little patience, you'll sound great in no time. Enjoy!

Great for the money

I first looked at this bass guitar reading the review of Stewart Teaze of the Yamaha ERB070 Bass Guitar Package. When I purchased the bass guitar I was pleasantly surprised by its quality, sound and feel. I am happy I went for this Yamaha Gigmaker EB because for 70 odd dollars more, you get a better guitar and 13 more watts on the amp. The amp works great btw, quiet enough to practice but loud enough to play gigs if need be. I highly recommend this product if your a serious beginner/intermediate bass player.

Great for a Beginner

Got this package for my birthday. After playing with it for nine months I can honestly say it was a great purchase. The bass holds its tune. There is some hum, but you are not paying for humbucker pick-ups either. The amp is great for a beginner practicing. The only thing I can say bad about this kit is that the cable failed. I picked up an inexpensive monster cable and am back in business.

love the colour

This is my first bass guitar. I'd been searching for the perfect one with reasonable price and this was it.
Its first day, I only played this w/o amp.(I'm going to try amp tomorrow.) So far, the structure, colour, finishing. great.
Sound? I can't tell since I didn't have chance to try the pickups.

Great Bass

I've read and researched as much as I could before buying a beginning bass. For being under $200 this is truly as good as it gets. I love the feel of this bass, the sound is great and it looks great. Just make sure you do a set up as all new stringed instruments require one. Initially the action was too low making fret buzz but after a set up the guitar works wonderfully. I had a bit of a problem since this packaged claimed to bring picks which mine did not but after calling Amazon they gladly gave me new ones. The DVD is good but I suggest looking else where to learn how to play. The DVD goes from learning positions (which is great) and how to move around to playing octaves and root notes. Basically it assumes you already known how to read notes or know where the notes on the fingerboard is.

Great value!

This is a very nice guitar for the price. I am a beginner on bass guitar, but I own several other Yamaha instruments, and I have to say the quality of workmanship is very good. The only downside is the hum you sometimes get depending on how you hold the guitar. This can be a bit of a distraction. Better pick ups would solve this.

Good quality but not as complete

My daughter's teacher said it is good quality. However, it will be more complete if the package comes with an amp. I worry about getting other package with amp because the reviews said the amp is not good quality or the guitar will be too cheap. Don't know how the others sound, but this one is pretty good and my daughter is happy with the blue color. I don't mind to buy the amp separately to ensure the guitar will well worth the money spent.

Unbelievable Bass

This is my 3rd Yamaha RBX170 bass. I got the blue one first around 2 years ago, then the violin sunburst one, and just recently purchased the silver one. As a previous lead player, I wanted a bass (or basses) that were light weight, and easy to play. I started back on bass with Gibson SG basses. I have 2 of those. Nice, big fat rock and roll sound. BUT, these very inexpensive Yamaha basses blow me away. Light weight, fast neck, 2 octives, and tone up the waa-zoo! With just the neck pup on, there's a great resemblence to a Fender sound. Dial in some bridge pup, and this bass will BARK! It can tone in for any style, and slap bass on it is awesome. The best part, these basses are very loud, and no battery to fuss with. I use Elixir round wound heavy gauge strings, run through a PV Tour 700, with two 4 x 10 cabs. These basses are so cheap, grab one (or more) while they last!

The best bass you can find for the money.

This is hands down the most user friendly bass I have ever played. It is also the most economical deal I have ever made. Tha RBX375 has the action like a top end four string bass. You would'nt even know your playing a five string bass, except for the extra low notes. I would play this bass on the most important of gigs; and I've played some big ones. The Bass Has a warm clean sound and, with the active electronics, can provide the funkiest of pop sounds. I recomend this bass to any level of bass player. Thanks for reading, Tim Parrish

Great Budget Bass Guitar

First of all, a disclaimer - I am just a beginner and just wanted something affordable that I could learn with. That said, I bought this bass guitar based on the many reviews I read on Amazon as well as other sites. To be quite frank, I wasn't expecting much when I ordered this item, but was presently surprised at the appearance and quality when I opened the package. This item looks and feels like it should cost more than it actually does.

As far as playability, this guitar feels very comfortable with a thinner neck than what I've played on other basses. To me, that's a plus as I feel I could move up and down the fretboard with relative ease. Sound is very good, and a nice feature is that it has one P and one J pickup to help you customize the sound you want. Overall, this is a very good bass guitar and would recommend it to anyone.

Only one caveat - change the strings when you receive it, as the stock strings the guitar is shipped with are not that great. Other than that, the guitar was ready to play right out of the box.

excellent for beginner bass players

I have been playing guitar for 20+ years and was supposed to be doing that in the new band I am in. But the bassist did not show up so I gave it a go. Liked it more than I wanted to admit and ended up wanting to buy a bass guitar. Not having much money (or choice here in Vanuatu) I ended up with this one. No regrets at all, it is a fine playing and sounding bass guitar. Two volume knobs control which pick ups you want to use, with just enough difference between the 2 to be useful. The neck is a bit wider than on other bass guitars I have played, making it a bit heavier to play for my short fingers but then I am more a guitar player, so I expect to struggle a bit!

Unless you start playing like Billy Sheehan and do lots of string bending, this bass will stay well in tune and will give you lots of value for money. I enjoy it and find myself recording bass lines to (guitar-) solo over and ended up writing some tunes in the process, something I rarely do on the guitar. Jeez, wish I had got myself one years ago!

If I have to mention one small negative: the front pick-up was slanted a bit much giving me little space to rest my thumb on. I adjusted it and now it is somewhat wobbly but has not affected the playing or sound. Ah well, it IS a budget bass so not everything is perfect.

Can't tell you if it is good for many styles, I just play blues and rock.

I doubt you will regret it.

Excellent bass, low price

This is an excellent bass, especially for the price. Has both P & J pick-ups separate volume controls for each, plus a third tone control. Seldom needs tuning. Great 24 fretboard. Light Agatha (sp?) body, but still has a nice tone. I am still a fledgling bass player, so I am not an expert. I play through a Digitech BP200 sound shaper/pedal and Hartke B30 (30-watt) practice amp, so I've never pushed any to the limits. I've read elsewhere that some competent bass players use the RBX170 as their main instrument. Yamaha guitars and basses are well known for their excellent construction and reliability. The RBX170 is no exception.

I heard this was an awesome bass but due the brand I had my doubts. As I didnt have enought money to buy something like an Ibanez or such, so based on feedback of my musician friends I got this One. Comes with the manual, the battery and allen keys to adjust both bridge and neck, no calibration was needed at all, once I put the battery and connected this thing to my amp I couldnt believe the quality and power of the sound I was hearing. The bass is kind of heavy, but its VERY confortable to play along the whole body, the factory calibration was flawless, it was very easy to move your hand trought the neck, maybe this sounds stupid, but with my 5 strings Peavey Milestone(my first bass T.T) I couldnt do the bass scales as fast as I do them with this one, the pick ups are huge, but the sound they give has high output and good low-mid range with sharp highs, man I wont hesitate to recomend you this bass if you're looking for a kickass instrument for less than $1000, waiting to save some buck to get the 4 strings black version
